Bederman Fellowship Information:
Each summer Emory University School of Law, through its David J. Bederman Fellowship, provides funding for two students to attend The Hague Academy of International Law's summer program. This is a wonderful opportunity to attend summer courses in public international law, private international law, or both. Each session is three weeks long; Bederman Fellows receive a stipend of $5,000 for one session, or $7,000 for both sessions. These competitive grants cover travel and living expenses, as well as tuition and fees for the program. Completion of the basic course in International Law prior to the start of the fellowship is required. The Fellowship also entails that, upon your return to Emory Law, you get involved in the work of CICL (on a flexible basis, as your schedule allows).
The application is not onerous. In addition to your CV and unofficial transcript, the only requirement is a short (no more than 500 words) statement of interest. Please submit your application by email to the Center for International and Comparative Law. The deadline for applications this year is November 15, 2025.
NOTE: If you are selected as a Bederman Fellow, you have to separately apply to The Hague Academy. The timetable is found on the Academy website. Students who are selected by the law school as a Bederman Fellow are usually admitted to the program; however, please note that applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis, so be prepared to act quickly if you are selected.
Please consider taking advantage of this exciting opportunity!
