Option Ronald McDonald House Ronald McDonald House provides a "home-away-from-home" and support to families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals, allowing families to stay together. Option A Few Cooks (ON-CAMPUS \| 10am-2pm) A Few Cooks is an Emory student organization working to fight food insecurity by cooking meals in Few Hall's test kitchen and then distributing the meals to food pantries around Atlanta. Option Atlanta Public Schools Title I Homeless Program (ON-CAMPUS \| 10am-1pm) The Title I Homeless Program aims to secure educational rights and provide support to children and youth in Atlanta Public Schools experiencing homelessness. The Program provides students with school supplies, transportation, as well as educational support. Volunteers will pack school supply bags to be distributed to students in the Program. Option Barkley Forum and Atlanta Urban Debate League (ON-CAMPUS \| 10am-1pm) The Barkley Forum is an Emory University organization that fosters a culture of discussion, dialogue, and civic engagement through speech and debate. The Barkley Forum is hosting two projects during Impact Day. During this project, skilled debaters will work the Atlanta Urban Debate League to support local high school debate teams. The Barkley Forum is hosting two projects during Impact Day. During this project, students will participate in a teach-in about making challenging decisions and working collaboratively. Option Birthday Party Project - Shift 1 (ON CAMPUS PROJECT \| 10am-11am) The Birthday Party Project brings joy to children experiencing homelessness by hosting personalized birthday celebrations at shelters across the country. Volunteers will support this mission by recording cheerful, heartfelt video messages that help make each child feel celebrated and special on their birthday. All videos will follow provided prompts and guidelines to ensure they are age-appropriate and uplifting. This project will be located in N211-N212 in the Emory Student Center. Option Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) (ON-CAMPUS \| 10am-11:30am) Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) is the largest pediatric healthcare system in Georgia, providing medical care for children across a multitude of specialties and programs. CHOA’s mission is to, “make kids better today and healthier tomorrow,” and does so by combining compassionate medical care with innovative research. Participants will view the movie and then participate in a post-screening discussion. This project will be located in the Harland Cinema in the Alumni Memorial University Center (AMUC). Option Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve is a community-run urban green space committed to preserving natural spaces in the South Peachtree Creek watershed for the education and enjoyment of the community. Option Concrete Jungle Concrete Jungle forages unused fruit and nut trees in Atlanta and farms fresh produce for those experiencing food insecurity, supporting hunger relief efforts across the city. Volunteers will maintain their urban farm space and prepare produce for donation to local food banks and shelters. Volunteers should bring water bottles and closed-toed shoes. Option Fernbank Museum Fernbank Natural History Museum is a museum that combines natural history exhibits with immersive experiences in their 75-acre nature park. It focuses on science, nature, and human culture through immersive experiences and educational programs. Volunteers will aid in removing invasive plant species throughout the Fernbank campus. Option Friends of Disabled Adults and Children Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC) provides refurbished equipment and services for adults and children with disabilities in order to improve their quality of life. Volunteers will support FODAC’s initiatives by processing, sorting, and organizing the thrift store that helps fund FODAC’s efforts in addition to organizing medical equipment within FODAC’s warehouse. Service will occur from 10:30am-1:30pm. Note: This trip is indoors, but please bring closed-toe shoes as you will be moving through warehouses. Option Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence (ON CAMPUS PROJECT \| 10:30am-12:30pm) The Women’s Resource Center works to support survivors of domestic violence and their children during both the immediate and long-term. The Center supports survivors with their legal rights, finding safe housing, and linking a community of survivors. Volunteers will participate in a workshop on domestic violence awareness, as well as pack children’s activity packs, hygiene kits, and bedding kits for survivors of domestic violence at the Center. Join Graduation Generation for Messages that Move, a community letter-writing event where you will have the chance to write a note of encouragement to a K-12 student in one of our partner schools across the Cross Keys cluster and beyond. A letter of encouragement is a chance to remind a student that they have what it takes to succeed in school and dream big for the future. At the start of each semester, the Emory community comes together to prioritize our civic and community-engaged mission. This Day of Service welcomes new students, transfer students, and all community members to kick off the year with a focus on collaboration and positive impact.
